La Caldera as a space for creation In 1995, due to the need for a space to work on their productions, Las Malqueridas, together with 8 independent choreographic artists, took the initiative to become partners and transform a disused belt factory in the heart of the Barcelona district of Gracia, into a centre for the creation and production of performances. Its diverse viewpoints on dance and scenic arts generates a series of activities necessary for life in the profession: professional training, creative residencies, national and international exchanges, seminars, open rehearsals, presentation of works and spaces for reflection on and documentation of dance. Today, La Caldera is a point of reference, a meeting ground for creators and professionals of the sector, for exchange of ideas and interchange of realities. An independent platform for current creation and investigation in the field of movement and scenic arts. An indispensable project for a city like Barcelona, which forms an engine and reference for contemporary dance in our country.
